From jazz clubs to Broadway stages, Ilene Reid has built a dynamic career shaping the sound of American musical storytelling.

A Grammy-nominated songwriter, composer, librettist, jazz singer, and vocal coach, she brings both artistry and authenticity to everything she creates.
​
Ilene is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild (Fellow), Maestra, and the Writers Guild. Her work has been performed by some of theatre’s most recognizable voices and has earned numerous awards and industry recognition.

Whether performing, teaching, or writing in creative hubs across the country, Ilene remains deeply committed to developing new work and mentoring the next generation of artists.
Composer & lyricist​

Ilene is a Grammy-nominated songwriter for “Throw That Girl Around” from the Broadway musical SWING!. Her song “Not Funny,” written for the incomparable Rebecca Luker, is currently being performed by Kelli O’Hara on her symphony concert tour.
Her work includes the Off-Broadway hit BINGO (The Winning Musical), which continues to be produced around the world, and VICES: A Love Story, called “a minor miracle…a sensual celebration” by Variety and nominated for eight Carbonell Awards, including Best New Work and Best Musical.

Current projects in development include GENIUS, a satirical musical based on the Patrick Dennis novel; THE BLUEBIRD, a Lucille Lortel Foundation–commissioned collaboration with Pulitzer finalist Will Eno; GODSPLAINING, a darkly comedic pop-rock musical tragedy that exposes the biggest plot hole in the best selling book of all time; and SOLANA, a celebration of the non-traditional family.​
