Godsplaining

GODSPLAINING, a darkly comedic musical tragedy with a pop-rock score, exposes the biggest plot hole in the bestselling book of all time. How is it possible that man and woman were created together in Genesis Chapter 1, but in Chapter 2, man is formed from dust and woman is later created from his rib? The show considers the woman before Eve, erased and replaced, and asks whether history is ever “truth” — or just the version that survived.

MANJA L. LYSSY is a multilingual, Swiss born and raised, New York City based librettist and screenwriter with a passion for telling dramatic and slightly funny stories about ambitious, passionate, flawed women. An alumna of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (Film & Television), she has sold two feature-length scripts to Reel One Entertainment. Her holiday movie, A CHRISTMAS GIFT OF LOVE, is forthcoming this fall. GODSPLAINING, with lyricist/composer Ilene Reid, is her first work for the stage. Manja has tried to lighten her dark sensibilities by diving into comedy classes at The Upright Citizens Brigade (improv & sketch) as well as The Magnet Theater (musical improv). Manja has been a member of the BMI’s Advanced Bookwriting Workshop since 2019.
